Why It’s Called The Practice Of Medicne, CONTINUED

This is the title of one of the posts earlier on my blog, it has been one of the most read posts, but not nearly as popular as the post about Women Dating Younger  men:)

This post is about the surprises I encounter during a visit to a new specialist and how perfection of doctors needs to be questioned to keep ourselves save!

Last week, I had to revisit the horriffying truth that what I state during a visit to a doctor, may NOT end up in my medical file, as the doctor adds or leaves out important parts.

I was seeing a new doctor, and two hours into waiting in his waiting room I was promoted to waiting in one of those  small, treatment rooms. The nurse was nice and she took a thorough history, but when the God Doctor showed up at last, it was clear he did not read either the MRIs  or typed list of medications I brought with me, nor did he read the history taken by his own nurse. After a brief examination, of about 10 minutes, the God Doctor left me alone in the treatment room again. There was so much silence, and suddenly through the thin wall of the exam room I heard the voice of God Doctor making his dictation about my case. I listened, and listened some more. My heart pounded:”Is this MY case he talks about?”

After over 4 hours of waiting I finally went home, but the dictation I heard through the wall of the treatment room continued to worry me. It was wrong, the whole story he was dictating for MY medical file, was wrong.

Later in the week I asked my primary physician to give me a copy of the letter this specialist mailed my primary physician. That what this doctor wrote in my medical file is wrong, is an understatement. It is dangerous, as very serious conditions are not mentioned as they should be or are misinterpreted. One of the key sentences, could be considered funny, if it weren’t for me to be the subject: “She reports chronic, daily pain which comes and go…” Please, God Doctor, make up your mind, does it come and go, or is daily and chronic?

Lesson I learned:

From now on I will present the doctors with a ONE-PAGE medical history and ask them to file it on my medical file, together with a list of medication and my power of attorney.

Sorry today’s post is not funny, but some day it may save your life.

Have a good week.

Foods that Reduce Inflammation and Some Beauty Secrets

There is much talk about how  harmful inflammation is for our bodies. Over the years I geather information about various foods to help with reducing the inflamation in our bodies.

Recently I visited the site http://healthline.com which has exceptional information on this subject.

I am determined to make a list and next time I shop to buy ONLY foods which have anti inflammatory properties.

For starters, cook with OLIVE OIL. Grape seed or avocado oil are also good for both your heart and brain.

Avoid red meats which could trigger inflammation, instead eat fish (salmon tuna, snapper, bass) they are rich in omega 3-fatty acids.

Snack on nuts and fruits: berries, apples, pineapple, walnuts, almonds hazelnuts, sunflowers seeds. Use herbs in your cooking: basil, oregno, parsley, rosemary, mint, thyme. Garlic is a MUST as it has many health benefits. To clean up your breath use mint.

Turmeric is in a class of its own for its overall anti inflammatory propertiesImage.

Make a marinade and keep in the refrigerator: Olive oil, chopped garlic is a basic. I use it when I toast bread. Add to this basic marinade any herbs you like.

I left the best for last: CHOCOLATE — with a cocoa content over 70% is good for us!

Substitute coffee with grean tea. A perfect food, to combine many anti inflammatory foods is SUSHI !

The Beauty tip for today is how to take care of eye and face puffiness. These easy remedies come from an NBC Today’s Show. Anything cold will reduce inflammation. A compress soaked in cold SOY milk, or using cucumbers on your eyes  and face to reduce puffiness. Products which contain caffeine are also beneficial and I was not fast enough to write the name of a new Garnier product mentioned on the show, but I will searched for it anyway:)

How was your week? Any tips you would like to share with us are appreciated. The goal is to learn things which will make our lives better in a variety of fields.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Insomnia and Evening Routines to Help You Sleep

It’s been years since I had a good night’s sleep and statistics show millions of Americans suffer from the same annoying and dangerous condition. Sleeplessness affects our lives in so many negative ways that personally, I am always seeking “tips” to find that peaceful night rest which will restore my beauty and sanity:)

Last week, it was on one of Dr. Oz’s  shows that I found the most information (www.droz.com), a few tips I didn’t know, as well as Web Md, a site which reminded me to seek in the evenings tryptophan rich foods, such as dairy, nuts, bananas, and sweeten with honey.

While I knew to avoid drinking coffee or any beverages containing caffein, I never thought of checking my medications for caffein content and to avoid taking them before going to sleep.

While I knew to avoid a heavy meal right before going to sleep, I didn’t know that having a small snack of a combination of carbs and dairy could help. For example, cheese and crackers, cereals and milk, yogurt and crackers. While proteins are excellent for breakfast, they are to be avoided in the evenings and so is alcohol, which will help you fall asleep, but not stay asleep.

I am not a smoker, but for those who are, nicotine is a stimulant, so fewer smokes before you go to sleep will result in a better sleep.

Here are a few sites recomended on a Dr. Oz show which according to him will help with a good night’s sleep:

A cool pillow (www.comfortrevolution.com )

A good snack: Nutzo, available at Whole Foods Stores.

A particular style of music was also mentioned as being an effective sleep aid. Sorry, I didn’t write down the site…

Have a good week everyone and sweet dreams!
